Sheffield Swimming Clinic
Introduction
The Sheffield Swimming Clinic at the White House Clinic brings together our specialist team in physiotherapy, sports medicine, strength & conditioning, and nutrition to support swimmers and divers of all levels - from youth athletes to adult recreational swimmers.
Whether you’re training for competition or simply swimming for fitness, pain or injury can get in the way. Our experienced clinicians understand the demands of the sport and provide tailored support to help you recover, stay injury-free, and perform at your best.
The clinic is run by Nanette Oakes (Upper Limb & Shoulder ESP), Ric Lockhart (Specialist MSK Physiotherapist), and Dr Rosh Gunasekera (Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine) who have experience treating swimmers and divers of all ages.
While swimming is low impact, its repetitive nature - particularly in young, developing athletes - makes overuse injuries surprisingly common. Shoulder impingement, lower back tightness, hip pain, and knee problems from breaststroke or dive landings are all frequent issues we see in clinic.
Services We Offer
Physiotherapy
A thorough assessment and sport-specific rehab plan designed to treat injury and identify underlying causes - whether that’s stroke technique, mobility restrictions, or muscular imbalances.
Strength & Conditioning
S&C support is a missing piece in most swimmers’ routines. We offer 1:1 and group sessions focused on building strength, control and injury resilience - supporting both recovery and performance.
Sports & Exercise Medicine
Our SEM service, led by Dr Gunasekera, provides medical assessment, diagnostics, fatigue management and injection therapy when needed - ideal for more complex or persistent conditions.
Nutrition
Nutritional support for swimmers and divers at every level. We help athletes and parents navigate fuelling, recovery, energy availability, and safe development through training blocks and competition cycles.
