We have found that Shockwave Therapy has been a great addition to our offering of treatments available to at the clinic
What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave Therapy is an especially effective non-invasive treatment modality used in order to treat subacute, subchronic and chronic conditions. The ballistic soundwaves used during Shockwave Therapy promote a regenerative and reparative response in the muscles, bones and other tissues as well as having an analgesic effect making it a very effective method to treating stubborn and painful conditions, whilst accelerating the healing response. This in turn helps you to return to sport, normal mobility and function much sooner than exercise alone.
What conditions can Shockwave Therapy be used to treat?
There are many conditions that we at the White House Clinic use Shockwave Therapy to treat. These include:
- Plantar fasciitis (with or without heel spur)
- Achilles tendonitis
- Tennis elbow
- “Shin splints”
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy
- Lateral hip pain (Greater Trochantric Bursitis)
- Calcific tendonitis of the Shoulder
- Myofascial release
What does Shockwave Therapy do to help my injury/pain?
- New blood vessel formation – microruptures in capillaries cause an increase in nutrient rich blood flow which is instrumental for healing damaged tissue.
- Reversal of chronic inflammation – promotes mast cells release, which instigates and assists the immune response, reducing inflammation.
- Stimulation of collagen production – Shockwave Therapy stimulates the release of collagen which is essential in muscular repair.
- Dissolution of calcified fibroblasts – calcium deposits are often present in repetitive trauma and tears. Shockwave Therapy can help to break these up.
- Dispersion of Substance P - a neurotransmitter that regulates painful stimulus.
- Trigger point release – trigger points form due to a “crisis” in oxygen supply and demand within a muscle causing a cyclic tightening response. Shockwave Therapy can break this cycle by targeting and unblocking the calcium pump allow the muscle to relax, hence reducing pain.
